Epic Downhill DH Crosscountry XC Mountain Biking Holidays in Les Arcs in the heart of the French Alps trailAddiction

trailAddiction Backcountry Weeks

An exclusive experience
The trailAddiction spirit is about making the most of the alpine playground in which we reside. Although we have long believed that Les Arcs itself provides the very best resort-based singletrack riding in Europe (that's why we're here!), the Alps are vast and we have an ever-increasing repertoire of "a wilder breed" of trail to show you throughout the Tarentaise Valley and beyond.

In 2005 we introduced backcountry taster daytrips to our holidays, giving our guests access for the first time to virtually untouched awesome singletrack terrain outside of the lift-linked Les Arcs area. New for 2008 due to demand, we are offering dedicated weeks of this backcountry riding. The aim is to give the full experience to those seeking something even more adventurous and "out there" than our resort-based weeks. We don't use ski lifts at all hence you even save on the price of your lift-pass!

Backcountry Descending

Tailored trailriding, endless possibilities
As with our resort-based holidays, we use a flexible approach and tailor the backcountry week riding to the preferences and abilities of the attending group(s). Also of note is that the Tarentaise Valley has enough riding to keep anyone of any standard happy for weeks (or indeed months!) on end, so we have no set schedule and are spoilt for choice. Click here to find specific examples of some of trailAddiction's already popular backcountry riding.

Gravity-Assisted (i.e. some pedalling required !)
We run our backcountry weeks in early summer and in late summer, but not during the peak summer season. No ski-lifts are open and available for use either side of peak-summer, so for backcountry riding we use a proven minibus & trailer set-up to help us access those far-out high-up trailheads. It is however important to note that because of the nature of our backcountry riding, it's impossible to make the minibus do all the work for us. Therefore, some pedal power on your part is required. You don't need to be super-fit, but a moderate level of aerobic fitness and stamina will help you enjoy the slightly more "epic" nature of our backcountry trail repertoire.

Uplift by Minibus

Example Format
Although we're flexible in our approach to the riding on these weeks, a trailAddiction backcountry special is likely to consist of something similar to the following format: (see our backcountry trails page for further details of each ride)

1 x H.E.I.D.I day - long minibus uplift gaining 2 vertical Km in height, then predominantly descending over the whole day (but high endurance levels required to complete this epic ride).

1 x "Classic" backcountry singletrack descent day (our well-celebrated 100% minibus uplifts, no uphill riding all day)

1 x "Mont Jovet Enduro" - single minibus uplift shuttle at the start of the day, followed by XC-trekking-style all-day ride using overall height gain in the minibus to reduce climbing required)

1 x "Vanoise Beast" - pure "hard-core" XC riding - a long climb from the chalet followed by an up-and-down high-mountain traverse near the national park, and rounded off with a very long singletrack descent back home.

1 x "ALL NEW" backcountry singletrack descent day - (brand new for 2008, 100% minibus uplifts, no uphill riding all day - all on amazing singletrack as yet totally untouched by UK bike tyres!)

1 x unguided riding day / day off (some people prefer to rest, and enjoy the chalet and scenery, or try an alternative sport such as rafting, walking or paragliding) - the hardcore will ask us for some suggested routes and we'd be happy to oblige!
